ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Dresden Mayor Dave Mathew has also been keeping a watchful eye on the river and its activity.

He said along with concern about citizens homes flooding, he was worried about the potential impact the river would have on the village’s wastewater.

“We had ice that was probably two and a half feet up on the fence and it was inside the property. The wastewater superintendent and myself were guessing three feet or so from getting into the facility and affecting the operation. And that day it was at, I think, 22.5.”

Mathew said the river levels in Dresden seem to be decreasing and the warmer temperatures should help the ice continue to break. He also said he’s not aware of any residents having to evacuate their homes.

“No. Other than just summer homes around here, you know, we have a lot of campground people have places on the river that most generally haven’t seen water.”

Mayor Mathew said although the water levels were high this isn’t the highest they’ve been. He said in 1913 the river flooded and reached 46 feet in Dresden.
