Village of New Concord Names Barkley as New Fire Chief
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Village of New Concord has appointed a new fire chief.
Shane Barkley recently began his new job as Fire Chief on August 1st. He was sworn-in on Monday. Barkley says he’s been around the Fire Department since he was around 4-years-old when his father was a volunteer firefighter and is excited to step into this new role. He also talked about some of his future plans as Fire Chief.
“There’s a lot of things I want to do in regards to community outreach and public education with CPR and first aid,” Chief Barkley said. “Some other programs that I’m excited to be able to implement. I’m going to work with the Mayor and the Village Council to secure some funding for some of those items.”
Mayor of New Concord, Jennifer Lyle, said Barkley is now the 11th Chief to be sworn in during the Fire Department’s 100 year history.
She says the Village is thrilled to see what the future holds for the fire department.
“I’m very excited to have Shane on board,” Lyle said. “He’s been a member of the department for years and he knows the Village, he lives in the Village, and he’s going to be a wonderful Chief.”
To conclude the swearing-in ceremony, Susy, Chief Barkley’s wife, placed the Fire Chief pin on her husband’s jacket.
