Walk A Mile In My Shoes Returns to Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence

ZANESVILLE, OH – The 13th Annual Walk A Mile In My Shoes event is coming up on October 5th!

Walk A Mile In My Shoes is an event meant to bring awareness to those in domestic violence relationships and situations.

Dorothy Thomas, the Chair Person for the Event, says to shed light on this often difficult topic, they have celebrity walkers strut the red carpet wearing the opposite genders shoes.

“The purpose of this is to show other people how hard it is to walk in somebody else’s shoes.” Thomas said. “Victims get judged quite a bit and this is letting people, because men will wear women’s shoes and women wear men’s, and I think, you know, seeing how the other person, what they’re going through, and just not judging them.”

In addition to the Celebrity Walkers there will also be a chance to form a team to walk around the Muskingum County Courthouse, awards, as well as a guest speaker sharing their domestic violence experience.

Thomas says there will also be a raffle with over 20 items up for grabs, with the proceeds benefitting Transitions Advocacy Office here in Zanesville.

“We also are doing a raffle this year and not an auction, so it’s going to be $20 for a raffle ticket. We have 21 items on that ticket so you got a good chance of winning.” Thomas said. “We’re going to have face painting there for the kids or adults, whoever wants it.”
