Walkers Help Fight Hunger Globally, Locally

Many residents Sunday across the Y-City did their part to help fight hunger, one step at a time.

It was the Zanesville Crop Hunger Walk at Zane Landing Park. The Walk, sponsored by Church World Services, helps collect money to help people across the US and world fight hunger and have fresh water.

"Lots of times, the money goes for self sufficient type things, providing seeds so farmers in other countries can grow, helping them dig wells or whatever they need in order to have fresh water so it’s kind of like people helping people," said Co-Coordinator Gwen Mendenhall.

But the group’s efforts don’t stop at the global level; they are also felt right here in Muskingum County.

"25 percent of the money we collect here today gets split between Christ Table and the Salvation Army hot meal program they do each evening," added Mendenhall.

With over 200 walkers, this year, the organization hoped to raise around 13,000 dollars for Church World Services.Walkers
