Walter “Dick” Ross (April 23, 1929 – May 13, 2010)

Walter George “Dick” Ross, 81, of Zanesville passed away at Genesis Extended Care and Rehabilitation on Thursday May 13, 2010.

Dick was born in Rose Farm on April 23, 1929 to the late Theodore Calvin and Mary Melvina Giles Ross. Dick was employed at American Match where he worked for 22 years and was retired from Grief Brothers. He was a member of the Crooksville-Roseville VFW, was a proud member of the Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame, April 2008, and he loved to fish. Dick served his country and protected our freedoms as a soldier in The United States Army during the Korean War.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Maye Ross of the home, a son Steven Brett Ross of Zanesville; sisters Annabelle Smith of Crooksville and Mary Ann Mitchell of Zanesville; five grandchildren Tim (Angie) Coss, Adam (Emily) Ross, Eric (Kristen) Stotts, Abbie , and Andrea Ross; four great-grandchildren Quade and Tyler Joseph, Dylan Richardson, and Olan Ross.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Marcia Renee Ross Stotts; brothers Albert, John, Elmer “Toe” Ross; sisters Lillian Ross, Marvene Thomas, and Ruby Thomas.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday May 16, 2010 from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8 pm at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 West Military Road, Zanesville.

The funeral service will be held on Monday May 17, 2010 at 2pm at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Patton officiating. Burial will follow in The Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery where The George Selsam VFW Post 1058 will conduct military honors.
