Helping Veterans Through Outdoor Therapy

ZANESVILLE, OH – A non-profit organization in Zanesville is helping veterans with their PTSD and trauma by heading outdoors.
Warriors 2 Wilderness was founded in 2024 with a mission to help veterans dealing with post combat trauma by heading on retreats as well as other activities.
Jason Maxwell, the Executive Director and Founder, recently met with the Muskingum County Commissioners and discussed how he feels that veterans don’t always have the resources available to them when they get out of the service, which can make dealing with PTSD an even bigger challenge.
“The VA had a treatment method of “give everyone a pill”, but there’s nothing like being out in nature,” Maxwell explained. “There’s been a lot of studies done that suggest that nature has a holistic, healing effect on, not just veterans, but all people in general.”
Warriors 2 Wilderness offers horse petting therapy, a course for veterans on how to fill out their VA Rating paperwork, in addition to fall and winter Whitetail bow hunting sessions.
Maxwell said he hopes more people continue to support his organization and the work they do for those who fought for our country.
“In order to make this free for the veteran, it’s really important that we get donations, sponsorship packages completed and sent back,” Maxwell said. “Otherwise, we’ll end up like every other veteran organization, charging veterans to get there.”
