Water And Sewage Rates Will Increase This Year

Starting this June there will be an increase in water rates and potentially sewer rates in the City of Zanesville.

The city administration for the last 8 months has been looking at water system and sanitary rates.

We met with Jay Bennett, Public Service & Community Development Director for the city of Zanesville about the increase in the prices.

Bennett said that on average every resident and commercial unit would see a 5-dollar monthly increase on their water bill.

Due to the requirement and laws by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) there will be a needed increase in rate to maintain quality control of both water and sewage. The sewage rates will be marginal compared to the water rate increase, but will more than likely be increased in June along with the water rates.

The City Council will have the final say on if the sewage rate would increase and when it will be put into effect.
