Water Infrastructure Replacements Coming

The Ohio Water Development Authority has awarded the city of Zanesville a $29.8 million through low interest loans. The loan program helps Ohio communities to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure.

“The city is very pleased that we’ve been able to bid out and have a local company win the bid that we will be replacing the water line running the entire length of Dresden from Maple all the way to Moore and we’ll be replacing water hydrants at the same time. That should improve the pressure flow in the system and allow the residents to be much more comfortable in the use of their water,” Mayor Don Mason said.

The project is scheduled to start in August with the entirety of Dresden Road within the city being re-paved in the new year.

“It’s important for us to address the issues that residents have with the water system and again with the streets and as I’m often reminded by city council, they like seeing us pave the streets after we do the waterline improvements. We had a great deal of success on Maple Avenue last year when we replaced 1500 feet of pipeline, water pipeline and then paved the entire length of Maple Avenue. We have yet to have any leaks in that portion of the line we replaced,” Mason said.

Before the replacements on Maple Avenue took place, they pipelines were suffering an average of one break every ten days.
