West M Claybusters Aiming for Victory at State Tournament

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local trap shooting team is headed to the state competition next week.

The West Muskingum Claybusters, which is a part of the Scholastic Clay Targets Program, are heading to the Ohio State Trapshooting Tournament next Monday.

Conrad Wilkins, the Head Coach and Founder of the West M Claybusters, says his team has been out practicing for the last two months to prepare for this tournament.

He says it’s an amazing feeling being able to represent their school at a competition like this.

“It’s quite an honor, especially when we do this, we represent the school,” Wilkins said. “The support we’ve had from the Superintendent and the rest of the staff at West Muskingum has been outstanding, I can’t express my gratitude enough for their support. It’s an honor to do that and do it in school colors.”

The West M Claybusters have only been a team for a few months and have had their share of ups and downs.

Some of the team members shared their experiences and what they’ve learned in just a short amount of time.

“The experience has been quite bumpy,” Tristen Mckenzie, an incoming sophomore said. “There’s been a few ups and downs but it’s been fun, it’s been really fun.”

“I’ve definitely gained friends and I saw myself becoming a better shooter,” Abby Crum, an incoming senior said. “I’ve also gained leadership skills from being one of the Squad leaders on the team.”

The 138th Ohio State Trapshooting Tournament will take place at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo Ohio.
