ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Westview Elementary School is one step closer to demolition.

The Zanesville Water Department disconnected water service to the former elementary school on Wednesday afternoon.

Paul Mills, Water Superintendent for Zanesville Water Department, said it took a little longer than they expected.

“Our map showed that [the] tap for the school is coming off of a four inch water main, and we actually have three water mains going up this road,” said Mills.

Mills said the water main associated with the elementary school is the 8-inch main which made the process take longer than they expected.

The original demolition for the school was postponed due to the active water mains. Mills said this is an necessary step before the demolition can begin.

“If they would rip the line out while they were demoing it or something it would pull it out of the main and we would have a big problem,” said Mills.

Bricks from the building will be set aside for those who attended the elementary school and wish to have a piece of the building as a keepsake.
