ZANESVILLE, OH- Families in Muskingum County had a chance to learn, play, and connect during a free summer event held in honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month.

The Muskingum County WIC Summer Open House welcomed the community with snacks, kids activities, door prizes, and family focused resources. Free car seat checks were also offered to help ensure child safety.

“This is our Summer Open House, previously known as Party in the Park, it has always been specifically designed for Breastfeeding Awareness Month which is in August, so we just like to bring awareness to breastfeeding and kind of normalize it a little bit for our community so our breastfeeding mothers and just our families in general feel comfortable breastfeeding their kiddos,” said Muskingum County WIC Breastfeeding Peer, Emilee Carter.

Several local organizations were on hand to share tools and services available for families with young children.

“I’m hoping that people learn about the services in the community, what is there to help support them, everybody is here sharing resources and what they do for these families with young children, and I hope that the community can pick out the resources that they need, and that will better their community and their family,” said Heartbeats Zanesville Branch Director, Linda Dady.

WIC hosts these events quarterly and plans to hold another Open House on October 11th. For updates, visit the Muskingum County WIC Facebook page.
