Wildcats & Lancers embracing success on gridiron

Newark1

The Newark Wildcats and Lakewood Lancers have endured recent struggles on the gridiron but are now enjoying success. The Wildcats are 3-0 for the first time since 2006 while the Lancers are 3-0 for the first time since 2001.

The Wildcats ended a nine-year losing skid to Zanesville by soundly defeating the Blue Devils, 41-0, in their home opener. Newark then overcame a 20-point deficit to shock Mount Vernon the following week.

The Lancers won a pair of close games to start the season, edging Amanda-Clearcreek and Northridge by five combined points before blowing out Berne Union, 41-14.

Newark looks to remain unbeaten on Friday at Lancaster; Lakewood plays hosts to Utica.
