Women of Achievement Program

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – More than 200 women have been recognized in the Women of Achievement Program established by the Muskingum Family Y.
This is the 31st anniversary for the program honoring women who achieve a level of excellence in a particular field of endeavor. Eight women have been nominated for awards in different categories including health care, business, and education. Mary Ann DeVolld taught for 41 years, she is a volunteer at two museums in New Concord and Norwich, and is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is receiving the Muskingum Family Y Lifetime Service Award and said she was humbled by the honor and expresses why it’s important to celebrate women.
“It’s important that women are feeling independent and are feeling proud of what they do. And you know, we’re a nurturing sort. We want to do things for other people, and that’s a reward that you get,” DeVolld said.
Kyra young is the youngest recipient and is receiving the Muskingum Community Youth Foundation Bright Futures award. She has been involved with her high school doing things such as pep club, key club, participated in her prom committee, and is currently Senior Class President. She said she wants to be a lead example for the youth.
“I can be a role model for young students, especially young women. So they can see what they can do in the future,” Young mentioned.
The women will be inducted into the Academy of Women of Achievement on Wednesday, April 10 at Ohio University Zanesville/Zane State College Campus Center. Tickets for the ceremony can be purchased on the Ohio University Zanesville’s website. All proceeds from the event go to scholarships for Muskingum County Women attending Zane State College or Ohio University Zanesville.
