Zane’s Trace Commemoration Started its Second Day with a Parade

Zanesville Parade

The Zane’s Trace Commemoration is a three-day festival that offers something for those who live in Zanesville or for those just visiting and day two started this morning with a parade. The parade started at 10 a.m. in the downtown area with Mayor Don Mason serving as the parades grand marshal who explained what the commemoration celebrations are all about.

“What we are doing is commemorating out past and we have a great deal of pride in our past. Our community came together, 1797 shortly there after was once capitol of the state of Ohio and we still have a very robust and vibrant patriotism to that early beginning of America, of Ohio, and of course, of Zanesville,” Mason said.

While Mason was pleased to be a part of the parade, he shared with us what he was looking forward to once the parade was over. Like the kids fishing tournament and live music.

“I think my favorite part is we’re going to have a lot of bands over at Zane’s Landing. All Saturday and Sunday and so I encourage people to bring your children. You know buy, weather it’s popcorn or a hot dog or a sandwich or soft drink. Enjoy the music, walk around, and you’ll probably see people you haven’t seen in a long time which is also a great thing,” Mason said.

Todays live performances included Slaw Dog, Julia Neville, and Saints of Crue. Festivities continue tomorrow with more live music, a beard and mustache contest and the Kiddie Parade on the East end of Muskingum Avenue. Visit zanestracecommemoration.com for more information.
