Zanesville Astronomy Club Hosts Viewing Party at OUZ Campus
ZANESVILLE, OH – Here locally, people were out in droves at the Ohio University Zanesville Campus Monday to get a glimpse of the eclipse.
The Zanesville Astronomy Club handed out viewing glasses and set up telescopes so people could get a closer look at the once in a lifetime event.
Irene Baron, an Eclipse Ambassador with the NASA Partner Eclipse Ambassador Program, was also present to answer questions and help explain to people what exactly they were seeing.
Heather Sands, Manager of Marketing and Communications at OUZ, said the Astronomy Club provided an amazing opportunity for people to learn and come together as a community with this event.
“We have amazing community volunteers that are right here, right in our backyard,” Sands said. “The Zanesville Astronomy Club, this is just one of their events. They actually meet monthly here on campus to let people use the telescopes and different astronomical things. They just have a lot of different astronomy events that take place.”
Baron said she hoped everyone who attended the event at OUZ today left with a little more love and appreciation for astronomy.
“Some excitement about astronomy, that’s all we’re doing is outreach, trying to get people interested in astronomy,” Baron said. “It’s free, you can look up any night, any time, there’s all kinds of apps on the telephone that tells you where to look.”
If you are interested in attending any other Astronomy Club events, you can head to OUZ’s Facebook for more information.
