Zanesville City Schools purchases a new facility

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville City Schools are expanding their campus across Blue Avenue.
The Zanesville City School Board of Education recently approved the purchase of the Beth Abraham Synagogue located at 1740 Blue Avenue. Superintendent Dr. Doug Baker said the synagogue board asked the Zanesville City Schools if they’d be interested in purchasing the property.
“So we began exploring the possibility of acquiring the property and obviously the location is fantastic for us,” Dr. Baker said. “We were able to work through that process and come to the decision that it would be in the best interest of the school district to have that property and be able to have access for additional academic space and extra curricular space.”
The facility will be used for various programs such as Robotics, stage performances, and the new Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (R.O.T.C.) program.
“We will close on the property at the end of this month,” Dr. Baker said. “That’s when we will receive the keys, we’ll start again checking the facility, and doing all the repairs that we would need to do to make sure that it’s ready to go for students.”
The Zanesville City Schools hope to have the facility’s maintenance and renovations completed before the 2018 – 2019 school year.
