Zanesville Fire Departments Celebrate Christmas Together

Often times we forget that First Responders don’t have the chance to enjoy Christmas at home with their families.

That wasn’t the case for all three of the Zanesville Fire Departments Thursday evening. Laughs and yummy smells filled the downtown station as the family of fire fighters came together to celebrate Christmas with their families.

"So someone wouldn’t have to cook today, we didn’t want them stuck in the kitchen, we went to Pick N’ Save and got meals that were ready to be just heated up. So we’re doing turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy and three pumpkin pies."

The Local 88 Union and the Officers Union fund the meal for the fire fighters. Lieutenant Doug Hobson says the meal is all about a sense of togetherness.

"We’re together. We’re a tight family. We always are bonded together no matter if someone’s in need, one of our members. Us being together is really tight. We depend on each other a lot when we’re in fires, when we’re on emergency scenes. So when we get together like this as a family, we live with these guys a third of the year, working the 24/48. So its really good that we can have this camaraderie to get together as a family."

11 firemen were on duty at the station Christmas, and around 40 people enjoyed the holiday meal. Hobson says the fire department hopes everyone stays safe this holiday season.
