ZANESVILLE, OH – Zanesville High School held its one hundred and sixty-eighth graduation ceremony this morning at 11 a.m. 163 high school graduates along with their teachers, family, and friends gathered in the gymnasium at Zanesville High School to celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2024. Including their principle whose relationship with her students goes back before their high school days when she was an elementary schoolteacher.

“It’s been wonderful. I had these students back in elementary at Zane Grey and at National Road. So, it’s so exciting to see them now as seniors as young adults and moving on into the world,” said Libby Hitchens, principal of Zanesville High School.

Among those receiving their high school diplomas was class president, Madeline Gantzer, who had this hope for her fellow students.

“I really hope to see everyone doing what they love, and I think that it’s good that it’s normalized that people don’t just have to get like a degree to be successful in life. I hope to see people doing what they love, actually living happy lives without forcing themselves to do something they’re not comfortable with,” Gantzer said.

Andrew James Dalton was the salutatorian of the class and Jersey Rae Draughn was the valedictorian. Photographs of the commencement ceremony will be made available online as soon as they are uploaded on Zanesville school districts website.
