Zanesville Memorial Concert Band Celebrates Independence Day with a Patriotic Concert
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Area residents have the chance to celebrate the 4th of July this Sunday with a patriotic concert.
The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band will perform a work of art from a local composer who also played a major a role in history. Band President, Chad Stemm said this is their way to give back to the community and to salute veterans and current military members.
"A Zanesville native by the name of Walter Anderson composed a piece at Eleanor Roosevelt request after the pass of Franklin Roosevelt to put music to his D-Day prayer. Which is the prayer that he was saying across the country on radio as the troops were landing on the beaches Normandy," said Stemm.
Stemm said they decided to perform Walter Anderson’s music this weekend to support a local artist and showcase his work.
"Although Mr. Anderson has now passed we try to support many local artist as we can, when we discovered him last year actually when our artistic Director, Jeff Roquemoore discovered him last year he thought it would be fantastic to perform his work," said Stemm.
The concert will take place July 3rd at Secrest Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
