Zanesville Museum of Art new exhibit

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Museum of Art is an often forgotten, hidden gem in the city.
The museum located on Military Road has many exhibits and collections for art enthusiasts to enjoy. Laine Snyder, Executive Director of the Museum, said one of the galleries recently went under a renovation and reopened earlier this month with a permanent exhibit for guests to relish.
“The museum has recently opened, re-opened, the Shirley Gorsuch Gallery here on the museum’s first floor. Many of you might remember that we had the Madame Alexander doll collection here in this wing,” said Snyder. “We’ve been fortunate to work with the Gorsuch family over the last year and half and we’re presenting a whole series of works from a permanent collection here at the museum.”
The exhibit will feature about 40 paintings that are either on loan to the museum or part of its permanent collection. The museum worked closely with the Gorsuch family to curate the exhibit with some of the loaned pieces coming from their personal collection. Guests will see one change with the exhibit. Snyder said the dolls that once occupied the space have now been moved to a collection storage, but guests will still see them periodically.
“Many people who really loved the dolls, and they have such a devoted following, will have the opportunity to see the dolls in the lobby once a year in the museum. But those who really enjoy the paintings that we have on view will be able to see those in this space,” said Snyder.
The museum is opened Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours on Thursday until 7:30 p.m.. The museum will be closed this Saturday through Wednesday for the holidays.
