Port Authority Discusses Employment and Housing Development

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority held a meeting on March 15th, highlighting the unprecedented employment levels.

Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director, Matt Abbott, says that more residents are employed now than in many previous decades. This economic boost was a focal point of discussion, reflecting the community’s strong job market and growing industries.

“A lot of what’s helping is our employers are very diverse in what we have as a community. From logistics and distribution, to manufacturing, oil and gas, food processing and food manufacturing. When you look at the demographics of our overall economy here in Muskingum County, when one has a strain economically on their sector, generally, we have one or two that pick up. That has been very good for our community, ” Abbott said.

With the rising number of people working in the county, there is a pressing demand for additional housing to accommodate the growing and existing workforce.

“We’re really focusing a lot of housing, the development of housing, and really all facets of housing. From the executive style top of the scale to moderate, low-income housing in our community. We feel that this will give us an advantage as a community to create density and bring population to our community to supply our existing workforce needs and even at the end of the day, supply workforce needs to people who are looking to come to our community as a business,” Abbott said.
