Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Highlights Economic Success

ZANESVILLE, OH – In the latest gathering of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority, community leaders discussed the thriving business community in Muskingum County.

With a positive outlook for 2024, the Port Authority’s monthly meeting highlighted positive trends, including a growing workforce and increasing wages over the past four quarters. Unemployment rates have improved, indicating strong economic health in the county.

“Things are going well as far as the business community is concerned. We have more people actively involved in our work force now than we’ve ever had. We’ve seen wages increase over the past four quarters here in our community and we see unemployment rates around 3 to 3.5% in our community.  Things are going well, and we’re excited for 2024 and some opportunities that are out there for us,” Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director, Matt Abbott said.

Abbott expressed enthusiasm for upcoming projects aimed to further improve economic development. Plans include the enhancement of business parks and the exploration of various community projects and grant opportunities.

“We’re always looking at opportunities in grants. We’re working on grants for the All-Ohio Future Fund, which could result in a large infrastructure, water, sewer, or could be transportation. We’re looking at some different things in the county that would provide us the ability to set ourselves apart from other states and people that we compete with for new business growth or expansion of existing businesses, Abbott said.

The remainder of 2024 looks like it’ll be a promising and successful year for Muskingum County.
