ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Soccer Boosters are taking a day off from the soccer field and heading to the fairway for a golf outing.

Both the Zanesville High School and Middle School teams are hosting its first ever golf outing fundraiser. The event will take place on June 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Green Valley Golf Club. The boosters are raising money for its soccer programs.

“I’m just looking forward to a good turn out for our event, this being our first one, we’re just trying to raise money for our programs and trying to do whatever we can to raise some money for that… It takes quite a bit to run several programs for our soccer teams at Zanesville High School and Middle School,” Zanesville High School Girls Head Soccer Coach Matt McCandlish said.

The money raised will go towards the high schools summer soccer programs including shootout tournaments and new uniforms for the girls high school team. In regards to the middle school teams, the money goes towards its banquets, officials and some equipment.

“I think we’re looking forward to spending time together, watching people have fun and giving us more opportunities during the season,” Zanesville High School soccer player Josie Vankirk said.

Josie Vankirk, Morgan Smith, Jillian Wiersma and Allie Walker are the four seniors of the ZHS Girls Soccer Team this year.

They all look forward to the upcoming golf outing and said the community has always been supportive towards the team.

“I think we’re looking to spending time together and watching people have fun and giving us more opportunities during the season,” Walker said.

“It’ll give us an opportunity to grow as a team,” Wiersma said.

“It gives us the opportunity to continue the sport that we love,” Smith said.

Coach McCandlish gave a huge thanks to Kenny Atkins for sponsoring one of the holes for the outing.

A four player team costs $200. Monetary prizes are awarded to first, second and third place winners. For more information on how you can become a sponsor or donate, you can visit the Zanesville High School Soccer Boosters Facebook page.
