Zanesville’s First Riverfest Promises a Weekend of Water Fun

ZANESVILLE, OH – This weekend is the community’s opportunity to cool down after the heat we’ve been experiencing this week.

The Muskingum Valley Park District and City of Zanesville have teamed up to host the very first Riverfest this Saturday and Sunday.

Russell Edgington, the Executive Director of the Muskingum Valley Park District, said the two day event will have many different water activities going on throughout the city.

“We’ve got things for kids, we’ve got things for adults, Pea Ohana will be here,” Edgington said. “We’ll be in multiple locations. We’re going to be having kayak and paddle boarding tryouts on the canal. So, we’re sponsoring that, so people can come at a discounted rate and give it a go if they’ve never been out kayaking. It’ll be in the canal instead of the river so there’s no safety concerns.”

Edgington said there will also be rides on the Lorena Sternwheeler, food vendors and live music on both days of Riverfest.

He said the goal of this event is to get more people out and about, enjoying all that our city has to offer.

“The Muskingum Valley Park District is all about outdoors and parks, and the more that we can get people to come outside and enjoy nature and the river the better off we’ll be,” Edgington said. “Our goal is to increase the viability of the river and get people really involved and excited about it.”
