ZMS Robotics Team Headed to the World Competition

ZMS Robotics Team 2026

ZANESVILLE, OH – We’ve introduced you to the Legendary Pickles but now it’s time to meet the second Team headed to the World Robotics Competition.

Michael Emmert is a member of the ZMS Robotics Team, and said he started participating in robotics when he was in the 4th grade after being inspired by the older kids at the time.

He also described himself as a problem solver and loves working to get the bots together.

“So our robot is pretty similar to the Legendary Pickles, this is the 3rd generation of our robot.” Emmert said. “So we originally built basically a prototype and we won two tournament champions with two different one from North Union and I forget the other one, but we won first place at those two tournaments and then we realized it needs some upgrades so we switched to the second version of our robot, which was much faster and could score a lot better. Now we’re on the 3rd one and it’s World level, in my opinion.”

Emmert said the Robotics Team is much like the Pickles, in that they only have about 2 members who have been to the World Competition before.

He said everyone has their role and they work together very well, especially under pressure.

“Once I’m able to build an efficient and nice working robot, I have a good operator who can drive it pretty quickly, I have a journalist and we have Jace who helps to program everything.” Emmert said. “So we all kind of have our place and we’re all I guess you could say chill out when we work on a robot and what not so it’s a pretty smooth running practice from here on out.”

We wish the ZMS Robotics Team the best of luck at the World Competition happening next weekend, April 25th through 27th.
