ZMS Robotics Team “The Legendary Pickles” Off to Worlds

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zanesville Robotics Teams have had a busy but rewarding year.
Two of the teams from the Middle School have secured a spot at the World Competition happening on April 25th through 27th.
One of those teams is the Legendary Pickles but this isn’t their first rodeo.
Cooper Mathews, a member of the Legendary Pickles, says their team has been to the World Competition 3 times prior to this year.
He says some of his teammates just joined the Pickles this year, but they’ve formed a lasting bond, making them more than ready to face other teams in St. Louis.
“It’s a really amazing accomplishment from our team, we all just really work well together and have a really good flow.” Mathews said. “We still work on [the bot] actually every practice, just improving little things like, today when we came in we adjusted one thing on the robot which helped it to take in blocks a lot better.”
Owen Cranz, another member of the Pickles, says the season hasn’t come without some challenges.
He says they’ve built not one but two bots this year, the first being a prototype which had a lot of flaws.
Cranz added that they’re eager to return to the World Competition.
“It took about a good 3 months to make this [bot].” Cranz said. “Really what started it was just an interest and it just kind of kept going, like year after year, and we just kept coming back.”
We wish the Legendary Pickles the best of luck at Worlds next weekend!
Stay tuned tomorrow to hear about the second ZMS Robotics Team that’s headed to the World Competition.
