ZPD at Board of Elections

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Police Department is providing security at the Muskingum County Board of Elections.

Election officials from the downtown Zanesville location requested for an officer to be present during the high volume times for the election.

Chief Tony Coury said the officer will just be there during the hours of voting.

“The Board of Elections called and said that there have been some individuals there that they have been concerned about,” said Coury. “So we’ve posted an overtime or off duty job for any officer that is available to work.”

Coury said it’s a precautionary measure since its a different election than we’ve seen in the past and both sides seem to be a little passionate.

“We just want to make sure that people come out to vote and they’re not harassed and they can do that and leave without a problem,” said Coury.

Coury also explained that some residents may not be registered anymore, and they may not realize that.

“If you haven’t voted for six years, you’re no longer registered to vote,” said Coury. “If you’re not registered you won’t be able to get in.”

There has only be one incident of a voter being upset so far.
