ZPD Investigates Weekend Shooting

The Zanesville Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting that happened on Sunday. Detective Sergeant Harry Taylor says around 1:45 a.m. officers were called to the Canteen Bar at 1134 Lee Street. Taylor says officers discovered that a shooting occurred outside the bar after a fight happened inside the bar. Taylor says the 28-year-old male victim was taken to Genesis for surgery and his injury is non-life threatening at this time. Police says they found a Columbus area male inside the bar with a handgun.  He was arrested on a weapons related charge and is in the city jail. Taylor says the person suspected of firing the shots has yet to be identified and is described as a black male from the Columbus area with a light complexion and thin build. The suspect was wearing a grey sweat suit at the time of the shooting. In a related note at just before 3:30 Sunday morning behind the Canteen bar Zanesville firefighters were called to a car fire which is being investigated for a possible connection to the shooting.
