ZPD and ‘No-Shave November’

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Police Department participated in No-Shave November for the first time ever.

15 officers and four administrators grew their facial hair out for a good cause. Z.P.D raised about $1,000. Each participant donated $2 a day, which allowed them to not have to shave. Others donated even though they stayed cleanly shaven.

“They tried to convince me to do it. But myself, the judge, Mayor, and Law Director decided that we would just donate the funds and not do the no-shave. We had one officer that is away on military leave so he sent his money in to participate because he felt he would participate if he was here, so he threw in his money in the fund too,” said Chief Tony Coury.

The officers took a vote and the money will be donated to making Christmas meals for the less fortunate.

“I think it makes everybody happy that they’re able to help somebody. That’s what we’re here for. That’s what we do on a daily basis as first responders. We’re looking to now reach out to the public and figure out where we’re going to go to get some help to buy some meals,” said Chief Coury.

Chief Coury believes there will be interest in doing it again next year. He said officers are already asking to do a no shave December and donate to another cause.
