ZPD Responds To A Call Of A Gun Wielding Man

The Zanesville Police Department responded to a call at Check Smart on Linden Ave. at 7:28 p.m. Friday.

The call informed police that a white male wearing a gray hoodie and jeans was acting out and waving a handgun.

"I observed a male matching that description next to a dark colored Lincoln Navigator in between the cars," stated ZPD Sgt. Jon McCoy. " As I approached him I did observe what was in his hand appeared to be a black in color what appeared to be handgun. I took him at gunpoint. Giving him orders to get on the ground, and lay the gun down. As I started yelling at him he did toss the gun down, went to a prone position on the ground where he was subsequently placed in handcuffs."

The weapon was taken from the suspect and an investigation did disclose that the weapon was not a real firearm, but a black in color B.B. Gun. Sgt. McCoy did state that the gun wielding man did appear to be,"not thinking straight," and was acting aggressive and beating on a car. He will be charged with both inducing panic and criminal damaging to a vehicle.
