The Licking County Health Department has confirmed an OSU-Newark student has contracted bacterial meningitis.
 

Health Commissioner Joe Ebel says they are working with the University and the student's family to notify those who may have been in close contact with the student.

Ohio University is confirming that one of its students is being treated for bacterial meningitis.

Junior Lindsay Harris was transported from O'Blenesses Memorial Hospital in Athens to a Columbus area hospital Saturday. External Communications Senior Manager, Kelley Finan, says the institution has been in contact with Harris' parents, who say their daughter is doing well. In light of the eight cases of bacterial meningitis Ohio University has experienced over the past two years, it's trying to take a more proactive approach to protect students for what the Centers for Disease Control is calling an outbreak.

It is launching a new Website that will contain information about the symptoms, risks, and prevention of bacterial meningitis.

Ohio University has been experiencing what the Centers for Disease Control is now calling an outbreak of bacterial meningitis.

A total of eight cases were reported over the past two years. Almost all of those students were treated at hospitals and released, but one student did die from the potentially fatal disease back in February.

A press release indicates the student is a sophomore who lives in one of the residential dorms. The student was admitted to a Columbus hospital Sunday. The Assistant Dean of Students says she has been in contact with the young man and says he is all right.

Ohio University officials are verifying that a first-year student-who lives in a dormitory on the main campus-has contracted a case of bacterial meningitis.

They say Charles Wulf is being treated at a hospital in Columbus and is listed in stable condition.

His roommates were notified, taken to O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, and were treated for possible exposure to the illness.

OU officials say they are sanitizing Wulf's room along with common areas and bathrooms throughout...
