ON the Fly with Aniyah and Shy: Shaping Up Some Art

ZANESVILLE, OH – June 10th is a day that honors Art Nouveau, or the New Art Movement, which is a late 19th and early 20th century art design style which shows flowing lines, organic forms, and natural inspiration. From pottery and clay work to stained glass and glazing techniques, there’s something for everyone to appreciate. WHIZ’S Aniyah Hart and Shylin Costello made a stop by Julies ARTery to participate in a hands-on workshop.
For World Art Nouveau Day, Shylin and Aniyah decided to get a little creative and see what it takes to turn a slab of clay into a piece of art. At Julie’s ARTery, they rolled, pressed, shaped, and designed their own decorative wall hangings, complete with a small pocket perfect for displaying a few flowers.
Under the guidance of owner and lead instructor Julie Goodall, every step was hands-on, from choosing patterns and textures to shaping the final design.
“Art allows you to relax and express yourself. If you’re happy, you can make art. If you’re sad, you can make art and let it feed into your peace. It’s such a great release. It’s like music. You have those songs you listen to when you’re feeling different ways and art is kind of the same way.” Julie Goodall the owner of Julies ARTery said.
If ceramic art isn’t your thing; there are plenty of other ways to get creative. Julie’s ARTery offers everything from stained glass and wheel throwing to soap making and other unique workshops throughout the year.
“Julies ARTery tag line is ‘A studio for students with a heart for art’ so, we just opened that up to students from 1st grade through adult. We try to offer as many different mediums and genres as we can.” Goodall
Whether you’re an experienced artist or just looking to try something new, there’s a class for everyone. To learn more or sign up for a workshop, visit the Julies ARTery website.
