An organization that helps battered women and provides children with resources is receiving its own help.

The Thompkins Child and Adolescent Center and Response recently received a $15,000 Community Development Block Grant through county commissioners to pave their parking lot, which before was nothing but gravel.

There is now a new legal option available for juveniles in abusive relationships.

The Ohio senate unamiously passed House Bill 10 which allows juvenile court judges to issue protection orders for youths under the age of eighteen.

"Abuse is on the increase, dating violence is increasing over the last several years and we are sending a message that there is help and protection for them," says Janie Malloy from Response.

Response Victim Assistance is celebrating a birthday.

It's been serving the community for 20 years and wanted to thank everyone for their support.

"Ideally, in a perfect world, it would be nice to have no violence, but at least our doors are open. Our agency is here to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, " says program manager Janie Malloy.

The RESPONSE Victim Assistance program is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the public is invited to attend.

On Wednesday December 30 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. they will hold an open house in their office at 1175 Newark Road in Zanesville.

October is National Domestic Violence Month, symbolized by the color purple. Recent statistics suggest one out of every four women is a victim of domestic violence.
