13 Die On Roadways During Holiday
The Highway Patrol says 13 people were killed during the Thanksgiving Holiday. Provisional numbers released Monday say that is an increase from last year when 12 people died in accidents, but two below the four-year average. During the reporting period – which was from November 27th through December 1st 13 people were killed in 11 crashes. Of the 13 who died, seven were not wearing seat belts – three were killed in alcohol related crashes and one pedestrian was killed. Colonel Paul Pride says motorists need to remember that the single most important thing they can do protect themselves from a crash is to wear a seat belt. The patrol says it also arrested 503 drivers for drunk driving over the holiday and that is a 9 percent increase from last year’s holiday.
