1st ‘Run For Recovery’

A race to bring awareness to addiction and the recovery process was held at OUZ/Zane State College campus Saturday morning.

The AmeriCorps Ohio College Guides and Muskingum Behavioral Health sponsored the 1st ‘Run for Recovery’ 5K. A 13 month recovering addict who also went through the recovery process with M.B.H said he knows first hand what it means to receive the support from the community and he told us he is running in this race to show the men in the recovery program they are not alone.

"It’s one day at a time and it’s one step at a time. You can’t complete it without starting somewhere and it’s you compare it to running, when you’re tired you keep going; when you don’t think you can do this anymore you keep going. You can never give up. If you give up you have know traction to stand on," said Taylor Strang.

Project Coordinator Desiree Shannon said the turnout was great considering the frigid temperatures with a total of 50 people in attendance. Shannon said they hope make this an annual event.

"We plan on doing this annually. We’re going to try to keep in touch and build up that relationship with Muskingum Behavioral Health. This is the 1st time we’ve ever done partnered on something and we hope to see this blossom into something more." Shannon.

Shannon said thanks to the support from McDonald’s, M.C.C.F, Scholarship Central, AmeriCorps, Muskingum Behavioral Health, Workmen’s Clothing the volunteers and the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church, for without them this event would not be possible.
