2016 Muskingum County 4-H Kick-Off

Over 130 students came out tonight for the 2016 Muskingum County 4-H week celebration.

The Rolling Plains United Methodist church held the Muskingum County 4-H Committee Annual kick-off. This is an opportunity for community members to learn about the different clubs and programs 4-H has to offer and also have the chance to win a half-camp scholarship.

"We have a project opportunity going on where it’s open to the public. A lot of our 4-H family is already involved we had a lot of new families come through the door they’re basically here to learn about what 4-H has to offer the kids in our area," said Jamie McConnell, 4-H Program Assistant for Ohio State University Extension Muskingum County.

Mcconnell said the Muskingum County 4-H organization has approximately 65 clubs spread through-out the county and each of them are currently open to join. Keep in mind the enrollment deadline is March 15th.

"We have a scavenger hunt going on. So basically they come through the door they get a paper where they go to the different booths for the projects are. Kids that are doing the displays show off those and they sign off on that. They bring it back and they get a frosty coupon thanks to Wendy’s. So it gives them an opportunity to learn about all of the different areas," said McConnell.

The county commissioners are showing their support by changing the lights on the court house to the color green from February 14th until February 20th.
