ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local law enforcement helped to make sure that every area child had a merry Christmas.

This was the 10th year for the Fraternal Order of Police’s ‘Shop with a Cop.’ Officers and Deputies from Muskingum, Morgan, and Perry County took children through Wal-Mart and helped them pick out toys and warm clothing items for Christmas.

“It’s an opportunity for at least the uniformed officers to come out and have the public, and especially the little kids, to see the officers and make contact with them. We thinks it’s a good thing for the community,” said Steve Jones the president of the Fraternal Order of Police.

The FOP was able to help brighten the Christmas of about 50 children this year. Jim Hicks with FOP said they are only able to do this each year because the generosity of the community.

“A lot of it comes from the community because without the sponsors we couldn’t do it,” said Hicks.
