Christmas Comes Early to Starlight Students
Christmas came a few days early for the elementary students at Starlight School.
Santa’s helpers were students from Mid-East Career and Technology Center. The high school students went to Starlight bearing gifts.
Together students from both schools sang Christmas carols, made edible reindeer and opened gifts.
Mid-East Council Adviser and Teacher Sue Lake said she hopes students understand what the Christmas season is all about.
“I hope that they gain some humility and I hope that they gain an awareness of others people and their lives,” said Lake. “I hope that they find out there is some joy in giving.”
Lake said the joy and excitement illuminated the room.
“It’s wonderful. It’s a happy sad day. I spend half my time with a big lump in my throat and half the time with a great big smile on my face. I think that how it affects the high school kids is so wonderful. They find out that they can really help other people and they see smiles,” said Lake.
This is the 29th year Mid-East has participated in the adopt a child campaign.
