Fire Department Requests Community Help

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A local fire department is assisting a family after they lost everything due to a house fire.

On December 9th the South Zanesville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on 77 Van Sant Street. Chief Russell Taylor said the single-wide was considered a total loss and the newly adopted three children and their mother lost everything.

“She was uptown trying to get help to assistance her for the holidays and stuff,” said Taylor. “While she wasn’t at her residence; unfortunately it caught fire and she and her newly adopted kids lost everything.”

The South Zanesville Fire department is holding a Toy and Clothing Drive drop-off at the station on Wednesday December 21, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the evening. The fire department asks that the community helps provide these children with toys, clothes, even money so they can have a nice Christmas with their mother.

“The family has been staying in a hotel since the fire,” said Taylor. “They don’t even have a home yet to call home. They just need our help, the communities help. We’re going to volunteer our time to do what we can for them.”

The children are in need of clothes the 8 year old girl wears a size 8, the 3 year old girl wears a 3-T to 4-T, and the 4 year old boy wears a size 4-T to 5-T. For more information on the drop-off contact the South Zanesville Fire Department at (740) 453-1171.
