Muskingum County Sheriff gives tips on staying Safe

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â Sunday is Christmas Day, a time for celebration and unwrapping of presents. This is also a time to take some safety precautions.
Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, said home owners should keep their windows and doors closed and locked. Motion lights for the outside, security alarms inside, and even dogs can also prevent someone from breaking into your home.
“You can be actually the best line of defense for your neighbors, because you’re familiar with who’s coming and going,” said Lutz. “Just be more visual, you know I talk to groups all the time about they’re our eyes and ears. If you see something suspicious say something about it.”
When out, Sheriff Lutz suggests to walk with others even if you are alone.
“You know some other people are walking to their cars walk out with them,” said Lutz. “You don’t have to talk to them you don’t have to be with them, but you know if there are four or five people walking to their cars at the same time you know that’s witnesses. It’s also somebody who could help you if somebody attacks you.”
Sheriff Lutz said that if you are going out alone to always tell someone where you will be. So if something may happen then someone else can know where to look for you.
