Muskingum County Center for Seniors ask for Levy

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Last September the Muskingum County Center for Seniors moved into the formerly know Zanesville City Schools Administration building on fourth street. Today they met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss updates.
The Executive Director, Ann Combs said they are happy to be in the County Commissioner owned building and that they are using today‘s meeting to update the commissioners on house keeping topics.
“We finalized the lease agreement with the commissioners today,” said Combs. “We’re in a lease purchase agreement for the building and we’re excited to be tenants for the next 15 years.”
The Center for Seniors also asked to have their levy renewed for the May 2, 2017 primary ballot. This levy helps provide services at the Center for Seniors. Combs said the Muskingum County Center for Seniors is funded in two ways.
“Once through the tax levy which is about 44% of our operating budget we’re also funded through federal funds that go into our 501c3 non-profit,” said Combs. “These dollars are used for salaries and for the basic operations this is [an operations] levy.”
Combs said this is not an increase in taxes and it’s crucial that they get this levy for the number of seniors attending the center is growing.
