Farmer’s Market Open for Business
Fresh produce took over the Muskingum County Fair Grounds on May 2 for the first time this season. The sunny day brought vendors and customers together for fresh fruit and blooming flowers.
The Farmer’s Market kicked off their first weekend with hanging plants, food stands, and homemade furniture. One of the most popular items for sale comes from owner of Curly Hair Farm Kristen Baughman. Her raw honey makes a statement at the market each year. Baughman explained why the honey is such a staple.
” A lot of the honey you buy in the grocery store has been pasteurized, said Baughman. “This [honey] keeps it’s natural enzymes and so a lot of people are looking for that raw honey.”
Spring means flowers and there wasn’t short of them at the Farmer’s Market. Vendor of Cherry’s Orchard Faye Belle Cherry was selling her hanging baskets of flowers. Cherry said that while today was about flowers, her passion is really in peaches.
“Peaches are sweet and juicy and they’re just so good and we just, peaches is just special,” said Cherry. “It’s just a special item to have. ”
The Farmer’s Market is open each Saturday until October. The market opens at 9 a.m. Â and they close at 12 p.m.
