Mid East Early Childhood Programs Hosts 'community Baby Shower'

Mid-East Early Childhood programs and FCCLA hosted a Community Baby Shower, Saturday morning.

During this event 28 expected mothers and their guests attended different information sessions on car seat safety, baby care, breast feeding, lead poisoning and more.

"One of the things six years ago when this thing started was, we found out that everyone is willing to help out with it. We will contact local businesses as big as Roosters, they’ve donated and the smallest individuals and churches and they’re willing to donate. One of the things that my students learned, they learned how to link to community resources and how to also give back to their community," said Katie Lucas, Coordinator of the Community Baby Shower.

The event started 6 years ago as a class project by three students in Lucas’s Early Childhood class. One of those students being Janessa Paul, who said they came up with the idea when they felt it was a need for the community.

"I defiantly love it, my goal in the preschool is lots of parent involvement. We were also able to get parent involvement from our classroom we have a mother here that is actually painting nails for the moms today. I love to see all of the community come to help out one another," said Janessa Paul, Early Learning Preschool Teacher.

Paul said none of this would be possible without the generous help from the community.
