Putnam Presbyterian Church Educates Locals on its Rich History

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Dozen gathered at the Putnam Presbyterian Church for a special lecture.
The historical church present a power-point presentation and tour of the grounds known for its rich history involving the pre-civil war era and how it helped pave the way for slaves into freedom.
"This place was a spot on the Underground Railroad and there are quarters downstairs in the old basement where runaway slaves were sheltered. We had about eight members who were very active in the Underground Railroad. It’s rare that this is documented because, it broke the law," said Dan Bee Bee, Historian, Putnam Presbyterian Church.
In light of recent events, Bee Bee said it’s very important to continue having these annual sessions to keep history alive and allow change to come.
"It shows people that even back in when our country was young there were protest, there were objections to the way the country was being operated. You don’t necessary expect things the way they are, you can make a difference," said Bee Bee.
Bee Bee said he wants folks to leave with an appreciation of the church’s history and apply it into today’s world.
