Ohio State Highway Patrol Joins Light Ohio Blue

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Light Ohio Blue is a statewide campaign to show support for law enforcement personnel.
It all started in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation to make May 15th Police Officers Memorial Day. Lieutenant Matt Boyd with the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said this falls along Police Week which is Wednesday, May 8th to Thursday, May 16th.
“The Light Ohio Blue campaign is just us and all law enforcement agencies in Ohio asking people to show their support for law enforcement during Police Week by putting a blue light on their porch, tying a blue ribbon on their mailbox or on their car or something to show support for law enforcement,” Lt. Boyd said.
The campaign first began as Light Central Ohio Blue in the Columbus area and was so successful that it spread to the entire State. Lt. Boyd said the Ohio State Highway Patrol put together a campaign card with a blue ribbon attached and they are handing them out to community members.
“Particularly with the time or anything to do with law enforcement and the negativity on social media that we see a lot of times, it’s great for us to see support of a lot of people. Our folks are out there trying to do a good job and 99.9% of law enforcement officers out there, have the best interest of the public in mind, are doing the best they can,” Lt. Boyd said.
