Donald’s Donuts Celebrates National Donut Day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local donut shop is celebrating a pretty sweet national holiday.
National Donut Day started during the World War I era where fresh, complementary donuts were made for American soldiers. That tradition has carried on, and communities everywhere try to get their hands on them by going to places like Donald’s Donuts. Co-owner of Donald’s Donuts, Tom Warne said prepping for National Donut Day involves arriving to the shop early to start making the donuts so they have a bigger selection for their customers. They were all hands on deck Friday morning, providing a variety of donuts from glazed to jelly-filled to cake donuts.
“We knew we would be busy, but we’ve been absolutely swamped today. We haven’t been able to keep up. Ed and I, my fry guy, we got here at 10:45 last night and we’ve been making donuts all night, and we open up for an hour and all of a sudden we’re out of glaze. I don’t know how that happens, everyone just showed up and took our donuts,” said Warne.
Donald’s Donuts has been around for more than 50 years perfecting their craft of serving the delicious dessert. Donald Warne founded the shop many years ago, but now you can find his son Tom Warne delivering the same quality donuts to the Zanesville community.
“This is a family business, my son’s in it, my dad started it. But it’s family all the way down. My wife takes care of the house as she works, my daughter takes care of my social media. My mother in law is taking care of our baby right now. The whole family is involved in this company. Whether they’re in here making donuts or not. It’s something pretty incredible, I’m pretty proud of it,” Tom Warne said.
Donald’s Donuts is located on Maple Avenue, and is open daily.
