Muskingum County Sheriff Attends National Sheriff’s Association Conference

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Each year, Sheriffs from all around the country gather for the National Sheriff’s Association Annual Conference.
Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz, was just one of 25 sheriffs from the state who attended the conference in Louisville, Kentucky. The annual conference featured more than 60 seminars and workshops covering things from duties and responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office to jail operations and the new technology within the field.
“We’re always trying to just be innovative, we’re trying to stay up with the times. And really the bottom result of staying involved with this at both the state and national levels is my number one goal is to find out what our folks need on the street to make our citizens safe and then figure out a way and how to get it for them,” said Lutz.
Sheriff Lutz also said the conference also featured an exhibition vendor hall. The exhibit hall gave sheriffs the chance to view products for law enforcement and meet industry suppliers. Lutz said one of the items the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office was interested in was a body scanner for the jail.
“We got information down there about that. We’re trying to find the funding to put the body scanner, when you put it into the jail it’s basically an x-ray machine. So we have a tremendous amount of contraband that tries to be smuggled into the jail. And this is something that creates a safe environment for the inmates and for our correctional staff,” he said.
Sheriff Matt Lutz will also be attending a four day conference for the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association coming up in November, where Lutz also serves as the President.
