Rambo Health Center Hosting Asthma Camp

Asthma Camp

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- An annual camp to teach children how to deal with asthma.

The Rambo Health Center’s Camp Wheeze Away is an asthma camp for kids ages 7 through 10 years old who have been diagnosed with asthma or has a friend dealing with the condition. Asthma is the most chronic condition among children, and this camp teaches them about the disease and how it affects their lungs, the use of medication, relaxation tips, and more. It is fully staffed by health professionals that can answer questions and inform family members on asthma as well.

“It is for children in Muskingum County that have asthma or they might have an asthma buddy, a friend with them that has a chance to learn more about asthma and what they go through,” said Rambo Health Center Director, Gloria Brown.

“We want the children to learn, we want them to have fun. And just come out and enjoy the day,” she added.

Kids with asthma are also able to bring a buddy who will get the chance to learn about their friend’s condition and how they can help. It’s not just a learning experience for the kids but a fun one. Many activities will take place with learning stations, pool time, and even crafts.

“At asthma camp we try to make learning fun so we try to relate our craft activities to asthma learning so one of the things we do is make slime. Well slime is like the mucus that builds up in your bronchial tubes when you’re having an asthma attack. So that’s how we teach them something but also have fun,” said Rambo Staff Nurse, Joyce Bates.

The camp will take place at the Muskingum Recreation Center Wednesday, July 17th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are only four slots left, so if you would like to register just contact the Rambo Memorial Health Center, (740) 452-5401.
