Annual Souper Bowl Helps Fight Hunger

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A Zanesville community tradition that seeks to end hunger took place this afternoon at the Ohio University Zanesville–Zane State Campus Center. Hundreds of area residents came out to enjoy a bowl of soup and support organizations such as the Salvation Army, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, Eastside Community Ministry, and Christ’s Table.
David Klein, with the Souper Bowl Benefit Luncheon, says the event has been a local fixture for decades.
“Well, this is the 23rd year for the Souper Bowl Benefit Luncheon and we have beneficiary organizations we support. We’re aiming to stamp out hunger; we’re trying to help organizations that do that.”
Proceeds from the Souper Bowl Benefit Luncheon helps those less fortunate in the community throughout the entire year.
“We have many members of the community; the wonderful thing is we have 23 churches represented. Volunteers from all over the community help outand its just a wonderful thing for those. And, we also have carry-out so if people can’t make it they can get a carry-out. But, it’s just a super event for the community.”
The event has raised over $250,000 to help fight hunger over the past 23 years.
