Discussion Recalls History of Zanesville

Residents of Zanesville will have a chance to reminisce to about the good old days of the Y-Bridge city.

The Helen Purcell Home is hosting an open discussion and slideshow about "Old Time Zanesville". The public is invited to come and chat about the history of the Y-bridge, various floods that washed through Zanesville, and the construction of dams and railroads over the years.

"Our residents, many of them are advanced in years and they remember all of this. To me, it’s really history and to them it’s memories so I think that’s really interesting," said Director of Community Relations, Melissa Best.

The Helen Purcell Home itself is rich in history, started in 1885 after Purcell provided in her will for the establishment of a retirement home for women. To this day Purcell remains an outstanding female figure in the history of Zanesville.

"That was many years ago when women didn’t have a lot of rights or even the mindset to be so visionary and she really was."

The next "Old Time Zanesville" discussion will take place Thursday, September 27th at 1:30 in the afternoon.
